A WORD FROM THE WISE - MATUA TUIONO SPEAKS!
Why do we do IKAN TESTS?
What does IKAN actually mean? and why do we do IKAN at the beginning and at the end of the year? IKAN stands for Individual Knowledge Assessment of Number. The students are given a test of their instant knowledge for math that they definitely need to know. The stages for this test start from stage 4 through to stage 8. The students record their answers on a sheet and then the teacher can tell what stages they are at for particular domains such as how good they know their numbers in sequence and order, how well they know their fractions, how well they know their place value and finally how well they know their basic facts. This information is useful as it allows the teacher to organise specific activities that can help students reach higher stages in their knowledge. So students look at your sheet and tell me what your stage is for a particular domain and what you need to work on. MAURI ORA!
