In Term 1, Week 5 the three junior classes combined together to stay at the marae. Whaea Rachael and her helpers were our lovely cooks and prepared some delicious mince stew and mash with apple crumble and ice cream for dessert. It was truly a yummy kai.
Whaea Anna was the lead organiser for this marae noho and did a fabulous job as we had many parent supporters come in to look after the students. Matua Nui was on security, Matua Dudley was once again on hand to offer his support.
The students went swimming and watched the movie "Big Hero" and sung waiata and had fun together. Mauri ora!
He Manukura 2014
He Manukura is a Maori programme designed specifically for the Tuakana in Te Whanau Awhina. While the other mainstream Year 4, 5 and 6 classes are doing elective courses, Te Whanau Awhina Tuakana do programmes that are specific to their Maori culture and identity.
For the first term, we have set up three programmes for He Manukura. They are Whakaraka, Mau rakau and Karanga. Each session is taught by volunteers who are experts in their respective fields. We would like to thank all our tutors for giving their time and energy to support our Tuakana at Clendon Park School.
He Manukura - Matua Thomas and Matua Kapi
Whakaraka programme.
Rapare 11:15 - 12:45 pm

Matua Thomas and Matua Kapi have a passion for teaching the arts and crafts aspect of Te Ao Maori. The students are learning about the various types of rakau such as Titi torea. They learn karakia and waiata too.
He Manukura - Matua Richard
Mau Rakau programme.
Ratu 1:45 - 2:15 pm

Matua Richard teaches the boys how to use the rakau. He shows them many skills through doing several drills. Eventually, we hope that our boys will be able to do the wero or challenge for when visitors arrive from afar.

Karanga programme

Whaea Miriama and Whaea Renee teach the girls the basic protocols for calling manuhiri onto our school grounds and marae.
