He Manukura 2014

It was a very proud moment having our students follow in the footsteps of our ancestors and do the karanga and whaikorero for our class when we were called onto the Manurewa marae. We are very lucky to have the support of our rangatira, who are the kaitiaki o te whare tipuna o Hua kaiwaka. Our students - Legacy, Merani and Te Uwhinga were our kai karanga and Isaiah did our whai korero. Nga mihi nui ki a koutou nga rangatira mo apopo. Later, Papa Toi spoke about the history of Te Manurewatanga o Tampahore, nga kaitiaki - Kaiwhare and Taramainuku, nga tipuna hoki - Tamapahure raua ko Tamapahore. We later went to the maunga - Matukutureia. Mauri ora ki te whei ao, ki te ao marama!

I am looking forward to the many exciting activities the students will participate in during Term 4. Nga mihi nui to our awesome kaiako - Papa Kapi, Matua Tawera, Whaea Renee and Whaea Miriama. Our vision is for all students to be able to do the powhiri process from start to finish independently. We will be looking at Taonga puoro and the wero. We will be having marae noho too! Mauri ora!

Success stories in Pukeko Class 2014

It has been an interesting week 9 in Pukeko class. First of all, Dallas - the haka king was an awesome dancer at Clendon's got Talent on Wednesday. He was doing hand stands, break dancing and just busting out the moves. His group came second overall...and they received the biggest cheers too.

Devandre was the man with his mihimihi along with Isaiah and Izayah. They were very confident and strong in their delivery. All the kotiro in He Manukura are totally awesome too. Legacy, Te Uwhinga, Leilani Mei, Merani, Shannon, Puna, Precious are able to do the karanga and recite karakia with ease.

Michael has been the teacher's helper over the last week and has shown a real positive attitude and commitment to his studies.

We had five students go to the JCHS sports day and were good role models for TWA - Kaitiaki, Leilani Mei, Isaiah, Merani and Michael. They played basketball, volleyball, touch, netball and t-ball

Te Uwhinga is a total legend. She did over 50 exercises for the study ladder programme. She is the hardest worker that I know. Her attitude and commitment is the reason why she is usually the top student in my class.

To all our students today. You were confident and did a great job when we had MOE staff come and visit our classes today. They were blown away by your confidence and delivery of Te Reo Maori and our tikanga here in Te Manurewa o Tamapahore. Mauri ora!

This is also the final week for Te Kapua and Te Waara. We will miss their big smiles and comradely with their fellow students in TWA. We wish them both well in Australia and hope they continue to show pride in their Maoritanga. Nga mihi nui ki a korua.

Study Ladder Online Home work

Check to the right of this post and you will see logins for Pukeko Class students into the Study Ladder programme. This is where they can do lots of mahi online.

This is what your student will see on their study ladder
There are a range of activities that the students can do on study ladder. Firstly, they need to do the "set tasks" that were organised by the teacher. Later, in their own time, they can look through "subjects" and "After school bonus" stuff.

The other part of the home page is the "My Rewards". Through this, the students can make their own avatar, make their new room and play extra games. They need to earn points - through completing the teacher "set tasks" to earn points and get rewards.

During the holidays, there will be school holiday activities to do as well. Plenty of mahi to keep you all busy. Nga mih nui!

Times tables in Maori

We are revising over our times tables in Te Reo Maori once more using the following sentence structure.

P) Ka whakareatia te __ ki te __, ka aha?
W) Ka whakareatia te __ ki te __ ka ___

Oral Language Drills of Whakarea
\
Great behaviour and attitude

Patai and whakautu in groups

Home work now and in the holidays

Home work happens every week and if you do not have anything else to do, there is the online home work with the study ladder and edublog programmes. In the study ladder programme, students are assigned tasks for numeracy, literacy and other subjects. In the edublog programme, students are able to do independent writing. Home work is important!

Speeches 2014

This week is the senior speeches. Students in room 23 have been thinking about famous people in the Maori world. Their speeches are based on Maori leaders that have contributed positively to Aotearoa. The other week, we had a lawyer, chef and actor come to Te Whanau Awhina to talk about their jobs. We look forward to someone special in room 23 to do their speech this week. Nga mihi nui!
