Kia ora tamariki mā it's Matua Tuiono here. How are you all? It has been 8 months since I last paid a visit to the school. I hope all is well at home. It is kinda cold down here in Christchurch. Anyways, whānau there could be some great news coming our way if all goes well in the next few weeks. You know how Matua Tuiono always goes on about the sacred mountains of Matukutureia and Matukutururu as well as the local history etc etc. Well we could have an opportunity to share this with all of AOTEAROA. Wow! It has been such a long time and although I have left CPS I still think all the students there are the best in the world. Actually, I am not sure you even still check this blog since I left mid-last year. For those still in Cyber land a big KIA ORA!!! from Christchurch. This is me selling healthy vegan and dairy free ice cream and fruit salad at a local Market at Linwood Ave School. Fun times!!

Reading the chapter book The Silent One

We love reading in room 18. We especially enjoy listening to matua and relaxing while he reads the story "The Silent One". It is about a young island boy who is mistreated by his home people in his village. As the title states, he is unable to hear and was born death, but has a heart of gold and loves spending time with his friend the great white turtle. Many adventures are to follow. Ask your child about the story!

We love reading, writing and math. We also go swimming, learn at Kiwican, enjoy running everyday and so much more! Our superstar from last week's whole assembly was Dara for showing excellent manners and always trying his best in class. Way to go Dara!

Welcome to Room 18

Kia ora everyone!

This is Matua Tuiono and I will be teaching in room 18 this year. We are going to have a great time with our topic on the importance of water and in particular how the ocean sustains us. Exciting times ahead with alot of learning and teaching in term 1.

Ōtautahi fun times

Matua Tuiono has been having some fun times while in Christchurch. Recently, I visited a marae called Wairewa and learnt about the history of the haukainga and thoroughly enjoyed the lovely landscape. It was snowing while I walked onto the marae and then the sun shone when I did my whaikōrero. I have also been doing some fun things like writing haka, waiata , rotarota and kōrero paki. Fun times in Ōtautahi whānui!

I thought I would just give a big mihi to everyone from me in Christchurch. I am missing you all and hope you are having an awesome start to the new year at CPS. You know TE MANUREWA O TAMAPAHORE is soooo cool and all of you are just awesome! Make sure to take care of everyone up there and have fun with your learning. I have experienced a few earthquakes down here already which has been abit scary to be honest, but makes you appreciate home even more. HAVE FUN! MAURI ORA! P.s teachers can you change my blog name to Matua Tuiono's adventures in Christchurch on your blog because I haven't got a class now lolz. This is just a fun blog to keep you up to date with what's happening down these ways now and then.

Mahanihani and Awhitu Regional Park

Our Resilience and He Manukura students visited Mahanihani where there is a light house and winds that bless those that come to the area. We were able to see Te Toka Tapu ā Kupe (The sacred rock of Kupe), Paratūtai Island and much more. Our group later went to Awhitu Regional Park for a swim. We later thanked our wonderful tutors for all their mahi this year. For more historical information about the area click on the link here. What an awesome marae noho. Students went to the sacred mountain Matukutureia and learnt how to do mau rakau. Later, we went to the Manurewa aquatic centre for a swim and then later enjoyed several team work activities in the evening before watching a fun movie.
